How Domain Names workThe Internet relies on web addresses to allow people to find information online. When you type in an address to a web browser, a process called name resolution takes place where a domain name is located on the internet via a series of Domain Name Servers (DNS), which hold records of the machine where the domain is held. This can be either a Website or Email server and is done by changing the domain name, ie: www.mydomain.co.uk into an IP address, such as 195.120.100.45. Any traffic is then routed to this IP address and either a website is displayed or email is delivered. |
